This was a delightful read. Main characters Louise, age 83, and Tanner, age 21. Tanner was a rising soccer star until an accident. So she's moping and unhappy. Her mother gets her a job as a live in companion to Louise who is recovering from a broken hip. And then the adventure begins. On the run. Secrets. The FBI.

Carl Webster is U.S. Marshal. He never followed in his father's footsteps. Virgil, his dad owns a pecan tree farm, that has oil wells on it. Carl is following a criminal, Jack Belmont whose rich father has already sent him to jail once. Jack's notorious career is being documented by True Detective magazine's writer Tony Atonelli who gets more info than even Webster. It's a fun read with car thieves, bank robbers, prostitutes who end up as real girl friends and so much more.

Violated

The FBI is called in on a horrendous crime and are anxious to get to the scene of the crime; not only because of the nature of the crime, but because the main suspect is one of their own, Agent Paige Dawson. She had intended to confront the man who assaulted her best friend some twenty years ago and let him know that even though the law couldn’t touch him, he had ruined the life of a young woman. Instead, she is arrested as a suspect in the murder. As the FBI investigates, however, it becomes obvious that this is the work of a serial killer, rather than an isolated murder, clearing Paige. But there is still a vicious killer out there who must be found.

Witness

I am not one for short stories but these were remarkable. Real characters I can recognize and root for, even if they are so different than me. Because they aren't different in their emotions and their relationships. Every story about family: mothers and fathers and children, spouses, aunts and uncles and cousins. The African-American experience, the urban experience, the human experience: I loved each short story more than the previous one. What a pleasant surprise to read.

The Liz Taylor Ring
by Brenda Janowitz

I really enjoyed this book. I bought it last summer when Brenda Janowitz spoke at the EMPL. Great love story with all the trials and tribulations of the 3 siblings and a priceless family ring. It's a good summer read when you don't want to read something heavy.

On Fire Island
by Jane L. Rosen

I didn't love it but I liked it. I continued reading On Fire Island because I plan on attending the end of the summer party and Ms. Rosen is the gust author. . I think the reason I didn't love the story was that the main character is the same age as my daughter. This is not a happy-go-lucky story. I found it to be quite sad at times, but there times I laughed as well. This is definitely a fast, summer read book.

The Girl Next Door
by Barbara Delinsky

Three families living together, causing troubles and foibles. The young pretty widow is pregnant and the wives are suspicious that their husbands are the father of this unborn child. The lead character is a lovely Irish girl trying to conceive a child. The family puts much pressure on her. All the characters are foiled in some way. This story held my interest throughout the entire book. Very interesting. Character study.

Dirty Laundry

This novel reads like a few episode arc of a Desperate Housewives tv show combined with a Real Housewives franchise. Everyone here can be guilty of the murder of a neighbor, which you know occurs during the first chapter. Who is really public enemy number one? The novel is easy to follow and read and hits that need to be a nosy juicy gossip lover.

The Ex Hex

Nine years ago Vivienne and her cousin Gwyn pretended to put a hex on Vivi’s newly ex boyfriend Rhys. The townspeople of graves Glen , Georgia are having their annual fall fair and Rhys is tasked with the job of returning to his college town to strengthen the lay lines that his ancestors placed years ago. Upon his return, Rhys is plagued with mishaps. As it turns out, Vivi is a stronger witch than she realizes and the hex that was placed long ago was real. Can Rhys survive the hex, save the town and win Vivi’s heart? I enjoyed this book. It was a fun read.
