Little Monsters
by Adrienne Brodeur

This book had so many little monsters of the mind. Brother and sister making it through life without a mother and a negligent, bi-polar dad that gave them very little of his time. There were a lot of predictable plot lines yet I didn't mind. I accepted the characters as they were, including the minor characters such as daughters/nieces, old friend, and an unexpected half daughter. It may have all gone far afield but the story held my interest and as a distraction it was ok to read.

The Patron Saint Of Liars
by Ann Patchett

Patchett’s first book.told from the perspective of three main characters: Rose, Son, and Cecilia Helen (Sissy). Starts in California with a teenager in the sixties. Then a road trip to Kentucky. Deep thoughts throughout and questions. Who is the Patron Saint of Liars and when are lies justified? The character development was enticing. The resolution is up to the reader,.

Kirk And Anne
by Kirk Douglas

This book is like a love story how Kirk Douglas met and married finally his love, Anne. They were married over 60 years. Because Kirk (Izzy) was a movie star, he travelled a lot, which put a strain on their time together, especially after having two sons. Kirk also had two sons with his former wife, Diana, the book is full of lovely letters they wrote each other plus great photos of their family and friends. Michael Douglas, kirk’s son from his former marriage,p wrote a beautiful foreword and a loving ending to this charming book.

JUST THE NICEST COUPLE
by Mary Kubica

I loved JUST THE NICEST COUPLE by Mary Kubica! Two wives, friendly teacher colleagues, and their husbands are the four major characters. The story, in the vein of a domestic psychological drama, is full of twists and turns. Miscommunication, misunderstandings, and misdirection abound. One of the husbands disappears. Initially no-one is sure if the absence is wilful or a sign of something sinister. Eventually a body is found ... This is the first book that I have read written by Mary Kubica. It definitely won't be the last!

Where Are The Children ?
by Mary Higgins Clark

Before I read the sequel to this book which I read when it was first published in the 1970s, I thought I’d reread this to refresh my memory. I love a good mystery, full of twists and surprises. I enjoyed this one as much this time as my younger self did. It was a quick read and I’m looking forward to the sequel.

On Fire Island
by Jane L. Rosen

I have mixed feelings about this book. The narrator is Julia who has just died way too young. Yes, the narrator is deceased and she is intent on watching over her grieving husband Ben until she knows he'll be okay. Ben escapes to their Fire Island home hoping to avoid people but as you know things don't always turn out as expected. The book is written with humor as you find out their story and the stories of those around them.
