Carved

I loved book two in this series! Our group is in the road to Hell, and they face more problems and enemies along the way. I loved seeing the small group of friends from around River. This is definitely a series I wish I could’ve read again for the first time.

I was so happy Corson gif is HEA! I loved the introduction of the new leader of the fallen angels and horsemen. It’s always a good time going back with these characters who I love.

A Death At The Party
by Amy Stuart

When I was first reading this book, I disliked it. Way too many characters introduced at once, but like a good author does, as a reader it makes me suspect everyone and anyone who is dead. You already know at the beginning who the killer is and as the story progressed you get more and more suspicious of who is dead and why.

The Bluest Eye
by Toni Morrison

This author has an amazing gift of being able to tell one of the saddest stories but with such tenderness and understanding. It’s a story about being a black child in the south and also a story of being a black woman who is from the south. You will find it difficult to really like any of the characters, but you will feel for almost all of them, and this is Morrison’s gift. The title comes from the little black girl’s desire to have blue eyes, like those of the dolls she sees. If only she had blue eyes, everything else would be good for her. And the sadness of this desire is only one of the emotions Morrison will have you feeling.

We Are Displaced
by Malala Yousafzai

Malala’s strong advocacy for all girls right to a quality education has resulted in her travel to many communities around the world that have assisted displaced young women and their families. This book is a compilation of a few of these women who tell a bit of their experiences. While there is an extraordinary amount of cruelty in this world, there too is kindness and compassion.

The Last Straw
by Paul Gitsham

Newly promoted Detective Chief Inspector Warren Jones is appointed to the Middlesbury force and is in the process of familiarizing himself with the local geography and the police officers he will be leading, when a professor at the local college is found murdered. His investigation is complicated by the fact that virtually everyone who had ever met the professor is a potential suspect. Needless to say, the professor was an irritable, vindictive, nasty person who had no compunctions about stealing his students’ work and claiming it as his own. He was also known for ruining the careers of the doctoral candidates he was mentoring. They immediately home in on one suspect, going so far as to actually charge him with the murder, but some things don’t quite add up, so the investigation continues and becomes more and more complicated. Eventually, the actual murderer is discovered and you will not believe the ending.

I was very surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. It has me snorting with laughter but also engaged in the murder mystery. I read it in one sitting.

JUST THE NICEST COUPLE
by Mary Kubica

I loved JUST THE NICEST COUPLE by Mary Kubica! Two wives, friendly teacher colleagues, and their husbands are the four major characters. The story, in the vein of a domestic psychological drama, is full of twists and turns. Miscommunication, misunderstandings, and misdirection abound. One of the husbands disappears. Initially no-one is sure if the absence is wilful or a sign of something sinister. Eventually a body is found ... This is the first book that I have read written by Mary Kubica. It definitely won't be the last!

Red At The Bone

I have mixed feelings about this book. The book has 6 central characters and each of the characters shares their perspective, feeling, and observations as the tale unfolds. While the writing is good and the characters interesting, the story jumps around a lot both in time and in who is speaking. I found it difficult to know who was speaking during each section and what the time frame was. Maybe this is one of those books you have to read a second time to get the most out of it.
