The Only One Left
by Riley Sager

View in Library Catalog

Home health aid Kit is hired to take care of Lenora after the previous aid disappeared from the house with no warning. Lenora was accused of killing her parents and sister years ago but never was convicted. Kit was also accused of killing a patient who just happened to be her mother. I totally enjoyed this twisty novel.

Talking At Night
by Claire Daverley

A beautiful and sad love story between two people who just can't seem to be with one another at the "right moment." It follows Will and Rosie from their high school days into adulthood navigating some very tragic events in their lives that affect their friendship and relationship. It is very lengthy, so it took awhile to read and could have been a little shorter.

I Will Find you
by Harlan Coben

I am a big Coben fan and this story did not disappoint. David has been convicted of killing his young son. He has been in jail 5 years when his sister-in-law comes to him with a photograph taken by her friend of a boy looks to be David’s son. David has maintained is innocence all along, but now he is ready to do just about anything to find this boy, and with the help of those who never gave up on him, he makes this happen. But the real twist in this book is what the boy’s mother had done to set off this chain of events. You won’t want to put this book down!

Wit And Wisdom From Poor Richard's Almanack
by Benjamin Franklin

View in Library Catalog

I requested this book after hearing some quotes in a documentary about Ben Franklin. He could be very funny as well as wise! The book gives a brief biography of Franklin, then includes quotations from Poor Richard's Almanack, grouped by topic. Many are appropriate for today, and I wrote down a bunch to remember. I found it interesting that weight-watching was one of the topics he covered, with quotes including, "Eat to live, live not to eat," "A fat kitchin (sic), a lean Will," and "To lengthen thy Life, lessen they Meals." I laughed when I read, "He's a fool that makes his Doctor his Heir" and "Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead." A quote that I need to learn from is, "He that pursues two hares at once, does not catch one and lets t'other go." Some others that I liked: "You can bear your own Faults, and why not a Fault in your wife." "A true Friend is the best Possession." "A slip of the Foot you may soon recover, but a slip of the Tongue you may never get over." " 'Tis easier to prevent bad habits than to break them." I found it interesting that some nouns were capitalized in the middle of a sentence while others were not. I recommend this short book, as I'm sure you'll find something that applies to you and the people you know.

Forgotten In Death
by J. D. Robb

View in Library Catalog

Once again, we meet Lt. Eve Dallas and it is a very busy day, even for her. Within a single day, she is handed responsibility for three murders, two recent and one over thirty years old. The cases are somewhat intertwined, involving two construction companies, one legitimate, and one not quite legitimate. It is actually operated by the Russian mob. Eve’s husband, Roarke, becomes actively involved in helping the Lieutenant and provided very useful background information. Dallas solves the two recent murders first, then moves to the decades-old murder, which is actually a double murder since the young woman murdered was 38 weeks pregnant and fully viable. In the NY of this novel, killing a viable fetus is considered a homicide. The solution of these murders is closely tied to the companies involved in the first homicides.

The Boy At The Keyhole
by Stephen Giles

For anyone who loves suspense, this is a must read! And like all the best suspense novels, this is set in England. 9-year-old Samuel is being raised by his housekeeper after his father died and his mother left for the United States. But the housekeeper was the only one to see the mother leave and Samuel is not convinced that something hasn’t happened to her, possibly at the hands of his housekeeper. This book leads you so cleverly along the boy’s thoughts that I guarantee, like me, you will not know what happened to the mother until the very end.
