Little Monsters
by Adrienne Brodeur

View in Library Catalog

I enjoyed Little Monsters and yes the characters were stereo type, filled with cliche, mostly by the number plot lines, some surprises but no cliff hangers and certainly not a page turner, when Ms. Brodeur dropped the scientific language I enjoyed those scenes more, I really didn't root for any of the characters and yet I felt sympathetic for them at times, so why 4 stars? Because I basically enjoyed a fast summer read as the reading program draws to a close.

Where Skies Fall
by Casey L. Bond

I adore this duology! This is one of my favorite enemies-to-lovers romances. Elira finally has her confrontation with her sister, and the conflict between Elira and her goddess comes to an end. I loved everything about Elira and Crest’s journey to happiness. They deserve it.

This story took place during WW11 in Poland. It’s about a family torn apart for safety from the nazi invasion. They spread out through Europe. This was inspired by the author’s family story. The human spirit finds a way to keep alive. The title shows, when things look the bleakest, survival overcomes the worst.

A Dangerous Man
by Robert Crais

This is a new author for me and I was very please with the book. Joe Pike, the central character of this story is at once an enigma and someone who would you would trust immediately. The story of Joe’s Background is dribbled out slowly amidst the action and danger of this book. The story involves a young female bank teller who is being kidnapped when Joe intervenes. She has no money and can’t imagine why someone would want to take her. But the reasons for this only become apparent at the end after several more encounters with thugs, and the reason is something that will shock her and change her life forever. I look forward to reading more by this author.

The sequel to The Thursday Murder Club of course features the four main characters, Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim. Also featured are police officers, Chris and Donna along with Donna’s mother Patrice, Chris’s love interest. Elizabeth’s ex-husband and former MI 5 partner, makes an appearance. In addition to solving murders, the septuagenarian group must find 20,000,000 Pounds Sterling worth of diamonds stolen from the American “Mafia.”The situational and descriptive charm of the first book continues into the second of the four books in this series.

Malala’s strong advocacy for all girls right to a quality education has resulted in her travel to many communities around the world that have assisted displaced young women and their families. This book is a compilation of a few of these women who tell a bit of their experiences. While there is an extraordinary amount of cruelty in this world, there too is kindness and compassion.

JUST THE NICEST COUPLE
by Mary Kubica

View in Library Catalog

I loved JUST THE NICEST COUPLE by Mary Kubica! Two wives, friendly teacher colleagues, and their husbands are the four major characters. The story, in the vein of a domestic psychological drama, is full of twists and turns. Miscommunication, misunderstandings, and misdirection abound. One of the husbands disappears. Initially no-one is sure if the absence is wilful or a sign of something sinister. Eventually a body is found ... This is the first book that I have read written by Mary Kubica. It definitely won't be the last!
