I loved it so much! Been anticipating it all year!

Cross Down
by James Patterson

I have to say that I really loved this book. First of all, it's written in John Sampson's voice, not Alex Cross's. That made it different in itself but the storyline was very intriguing as well. There was never a dull moment in the entire book. If you're an Alex Cross fan, you're going to love this book.

From Scratch

This story of love and loss is actually a fictionalized version of Locke’s real life experiences. She shares her experience of falling in love with a Sicilian farmer who became a chef against his family’s wishes. In the book, Amy Wheeler, an attorney turned actress, and Lino Ortolano, the chef, make a wonderful life in Los Angeles. They adopted their daughter, Idalia, at birth, and the family was complete. After Lino fought cancer and ultimately passes away, Amy and Idalia spend three summers with Lino’s mother on the family farm. Through those visits, a bond is formed and Lino’s mother, wife and daughter are able to work through their grief. As with most Sicilian families, food is a major component in the process.

Written in 2010 it is just a relevant as if were written in 2023. Whoopie Goldberg is an actress, comedian, satirist, controversial, outspoken television hostess and I enjoyed every page of pointed opinions about everything. Don't hesitate to read what Whoopie thinks of the world - You might be angry especially if your recognize yourself or someone you know -

Killers Of The Flower Moon

This piece of American history, I never heard about, nor read about in any history books. It’s a remarkable little known era in the first few decades of the American 20th century that both was amazing and shocking. This books reads like a mystery novel but is so well documented and beautifully written that it’s hard to put down. The story is really two stories in the book, the saga of the Osage nation mistreatment and the evolution of the FBI. It’s the true story about the reign of terror of the Osage Indian Tribe written by a journalist. A part of American History that everyone should know about.

A Shoe Story

One of the main reasons that I enjoyed this story was because I liked all of the characters, which is a rare thing. Each had their own personality but they blended together and as a whole made me smile. These were people with which I could share a friendship. There was some sadness when Sal recounts his experiences while serving during WWII. The main protagonist, Esme finds that she and Sal have similarities in their personal lives and that both need a "compass" to find their way. The many references to designer shoes throughout the story were fun. I do recommend this book as a fun, light read.

This was a really great book. I was skeptical because it is of a character she has already written of, but this one was better than the first featuring this character. I will say Escape Room is still her best, but this book was enjoyable.

Anatomy: A Love Story
by Dana Schwartz

Hazel Sinnett is a 17-year-old girl from a wealthy family in 19th century Scotland. According to these factors, her role in life should be simple: marry a wealthy man and run his home, seen but not heard. That isn’t Hazel’s dream, though. She has a brilliant and eager scientific mind and, even though women aren’t allowed to attend medical school, she sneaks in anyway dressed as a man. This works wonderfully … until it doesn’t. When things go awry, she joins forces with a new acquaintance – a young renaissance man (aka grave robber) named Jack Currer – to continue her learning on stolen corpses. While a romance does bloom between Hazel and Jack as the title might suggest, it is only a charming addition to the main plot. Hazel’s search for medical knowledge comes with a search for confidence in her own abilities as well, and we watch her tackle her insecurities, change minds, and save lives – all while risking her own (and Jack’s) safety to do so. Readers are left with a shocking revelation in the end as Hazel’s keen mind uncovers a secret no one else has ever managed to figure out... Dana Schwartz’s writing is smart, fun, and skillfully blurs the line between antiquated 19th century speech and modern slang to create a story that is hard to put down and a character who’s very easy to root for.
