Terrible Virtue
by Ellen Feldman

View in Library Catalog

This book is about the life of Margaret Sanger. My problem with the book is not the writing, but it is with the depiction of this formidable, abrasive woman. This is a problem I have with historical fiction. Was this what the character was really like or has the personality been embellished to spice up the novel. For me the descriptions of her dalliances really turned me off but her fight for women's reproductive rights was admirable.

My Murder
by Katie Williams

An interesting idea which is why I give it 1 star, but it was confusing, boring, not worth reading - on the cover it quotes Megan Abbott who found the book "darkly funny' it was not funny at all, "deeply scary" Stephan King writes scary and better, "utterly original" original certainly that went nowhere.

For Twice In My Life

I really enjoyed this romance novel about Layla Rockford, a 28 year old woman who is the youngest of 5 siblings. Her life is messy and she has had some problems in the past but learns that mistakes can sometimes lead to good things. Can a relationship be based on a lie? Read it and find out!

Home health aid Kit is hired to take care of Lenora after the previous aid disappeared from the house with no warning. Lenora was accused of killing her parents and sister years ago but never was convicted. Kit was also accused of killing a patient who just happened to be her mother. I totally enjoyed this twisty novel.

This was such a good ending to this story! It was so fun to see events from Air Awakens from a different perspective. I’m glad Vi and Tavyn got their HEA as well. They deserved it.

I love this book and series! I was so emotional at the end even though I knew what was going to happen. Highly recommend this series!

The Japanese Lover

Isabel Allende always writes characters that intrigue me. In this novel, we meet Alma, sent by her parents in Hitler’s Germany to her aunt and uncle in San Francisco. Fortunately, this is a loving home and quite wealthy. As children, Alma and the gardener’s son, Ichemei meet and form a bond that last throughout their lives.

This was a very nice story. One or two predictable moments, but each of the characters are wonderful and grow throughout the novel.

Crazy To Leave You

Initially, I thought this was a light read about a scorned woman but as I read on, I realized that it was more of a story of self-understanding, as the protagonist Lauren had to rebound from a surprising/embarrassing situation. In general, the story was funny and I could relate to many of Lauren's thoughts. It was interesting the way that her family/mother had influenced her development as a woman/person and the strength required to become her own person. I did enjoy the book and do recommend it.

Only The Beautiful
by Susan Meissner

Only the Beautiful is a historical novel, told in two timelines, that tells the story of Rosie and Helen. Rosie an orphan who is placed in the care of her parent’s former employers the Calvert’s, and Helen the sister of Mr. Calvert, who is in Europe. Part one is about Rosie and part two is about Helen’s efforts to find her. Rosie is treated by the Calvert’s as a maid. Rosie accepts her fate, but, as her mother instructed, keeps a secret of her ability to see colors when she hears sounds. This phenomenon was not understood at this time and was seen as a sign of mental illness. Her employer finds out about Rosie’s secrete. Rosie becomes pregnant and is sent to a state home, to cure her disability, instead of a home for unwed mothers. Here, so-called inherited flaws are not tolerated, and Rosie undergoes a difficult time. In part two, Helen returns to the US and embarks on a mission to find Rosie.
