View in Library Catalog

Once again, we meet Pendergast, a famous, or perhaps, infamous F.B.I. agent. There is a series of bizarre murders in Miami Beach. Woman are being murdered, their hearts removed, and later deposited on, apparently random, graves. Pendergast has a new supervisor, and in order to remain on the case, Pendergast has to agree to the unthinkable-a partner. He and his partner eventually find a connection. The graves all belong to women who committed suicide. The investigation uncovers a decades old conspiracy; a conspiracy of death. You will have trouble putting this book down.

The German Midwife

This is a wonderful book about Anke Hoff, a midwife who is a prisoner in a labor camp during WWII. She and her family have been arrested for their anti Nazi feelings. Now Anke has been chosen to look after Eva Braun, Hitler's mistress. She has no choice and is hoping by doing so she and her family will be released.

The Overlook
by Michael Connelly

There has not been a Michael Connelly book I did not enjoy, this one included. Aa man is found dead at an overlook. Minutes before he was sent a photo of his wife naked and tied up. And he worked with radioactive materials used in hospitals. But what looks like a terrorist attack and has everyone running in that direction, turns out to be something much less frightening, but just as evil. And the bad guys are not easily identifiable. This book has one of the best endings I have ever read.

Sophia, Princess Among Beasts
by James Patterson and Emily Raymond

This is  fantasy book that just did not engage me.  Over all the story isn't bad but I could not read more than a chapter or 2 at a time (and if you know James Patterson, his chapters are short).

The Five-star Weekend
by Elin Hilderbrand

I really enjoyed this book. It is a wonderful summer read. It takes place in Nantucket. It is a mostly light read. Revolves around a special weekend get together of 5 women, who have lots of secrets and who all have a relationship with Hollis, who is the person running the weekend.

Spare

I believe this is the first autobiography I have ever read, and I typically avoided them because I thought that they would not be interesting or relevant to me. So here is an autobiography about someone who not only lives in another country but is also royalty. Certainly nothing I would be interested in, right? But I found the book so fascinating. He portrays not only his life in the royal family of England, but also the challenges faced if the life you want to lead conflicts with royal expectations. It’s a story about wanting to live life fairly and freely. And he does an excellent job of this by focusing on his experiences and emotions beginning with the violent and untimely death of his mother and concluding after he and his wife moved away from England. And throughout it all is the insidious and unrelenting hounding by the English Paparazzi. This story has opened up a whole new genre that I can now explore. Thank you!

Dreams of Silver

This historical novel is the sequel to The Silver Music Box and continues the story of the two sisters who were separated in England after being rescued from Nazi Germany by the Kindertransport. It is a moving, poignant story that takes us from London, to Capetown, South Africa, and to Dublin, Ireland. Memorable characters and story; couldn't put it down!

My Life In Full
by Indra Nooyi

This book made me cry. (So embarrassing.) But that's because the premise of this CEO's story, if it's even half accurate, is the story of someone who sacrificed family, managed tough jobs, broke the glass ceiling and still is frustrated by the inability of corporate America to do right for all workers. Her revealing personal and professional life was really worth the read, After "Flaming Hot", it was another viewpoint about Pepsi that I thought was sometimes scathing but with a polite approach.
