Fin & Lady
by Cathleen Schine

This story takes place in the 60s when the world was truly changing. Fin has lost his parents and has to live with his new guardian, his half-sister Lady who he barely knows. Lady is a free-spirit who takes Fin to live in Greenwich Village. Is Lady raising Fin or is Fin raising Lady. Honestly, I couldn't wait to finish this book so I could move on to a better one.

Anxious People

This was up and down for me. Excellent plotting, meaningful observations, poignant moments, and a reflection of the author’s deep understanding of the human condition. Didn’t really love the style. Also felt as if the author was teaching a class in what he has learned about life. I appreciated the intricate unraveling of the story, and the amazing development of 6 degrees of separation among the characters. Ending was very uplifting, Perhaps, a bit to neatly tied up.

Mad Honey
by Jodi Picoult

It's been a very long time since I've read a Jodi Picoult, and this book was exactly what I needed to reintroduce me to her world. A beautiful insight into many issues that are very prevalent in this day and age. I also love the way that bees and honey were incorporated into the story. And loved that Jordan McAfee (among other references to Nineteen Minutes) were incorporated into the story. Did not care for Lily's backwards storytelling though

This book is either here nor there, but it does wrap itself up nicely. If you are about female empowerment, than this is the book for you.

The Five-star Weekend

An enjoyable beach read by one of my favorite authors. Hollis Shaw invites 4 of her friends to spend a weekend with her at her beachfront home on Nantucket seven months after the death of her husband. She has an itinerary, but it doesn't go quite as she planned. Lots of drama, secrets revealed, and reconciliation. Clever take on how the internet & social media affect all our lives.

This is a tale of kindness begetting kindness. A family with a young daughter that needs an operation to walk is struggling with money. Friends and coworkers offer to help, but the amount needed is substantially more than can be raised. But then simple acts of kindness from the family touch someone who is in a real position to help, and they do. The story, set at Christmas, is applicable for the whole year through.

Dirty Laundry

This novel reads like a few episode arc of a Desperate Housewives tv show combined with a Real Housewives franchise. Everyone here can be guilty of the murder of a neighbor, which you know occurs during the first chapter. Who is really public enemy number one? The novel is easy to follow and read and hits that need to be a nosy juicy gossip lover.
