Better Living Through Birding
by Christian Cooper

View in Library Catalog

This is the Christian Cooper who was trusted into the nation's conscience when Amy Cooper (no relation) called 911 to say she was being threatened by "an African American man in Central park". He was bird watching and just wanted her to put her dog on its leash as required. But the notoriety isn't what he wanted and his memoir is about his life as a gay person, a comic book writer an activist and especially a birder.

Carl Webster is U.S. Marshal. He never followed in his father's footsteps. Virgil, his dad owns a pecan tree farm, that has oil wells on it. Carl is following a criminal, Jack Belmont whose rich father has already sent him to jail once. Jack's notorious career is being documented by True Detective magazine's writer Tony Atonelli who gets more info than even Webster. It's a fun read with car thieves, bank robbers, prostitutes who end up as real girl friends and so much more.

Creatures Of The In Between

I really enjoyed this middle-grade fantasy. The lore and mythical creatures were my favorite part, and I appreciated how some unique mythical creatures made an appearance as well. I was glad that the MC did what was right even when he had family telling him to do the wrong thing.

The Good Guy
by Dean Koontz

Good mystery and had to continue reading to see who the bad guys were but too goorey for me. It is ok if you are a fan of Dean Koontz. Good characters and surprising on how true the ending was that possibly could happen in real life.

Listen To The Marriage
by John Jay Osborn

This book was so good and unlike anything else I have read. You get to listen to a series of marriage counseling sessions, and you get to hear what the marriage counselor is thinking in her head. It is just so wonderfully fresh and done in a such a realistic way that I thought the writer may have been a counselor, but I was wrong. Can’t wait to read something else by this author.

The Escape Room
by Megan Goldin

I really enjoyed this book, and am sorry I couldn't attend the book discussion about it. Half of the chapters are written in the first person by a woman who we learn early on has died. The other half take place in an elevator which has become an escape room of sorts. The book is about a team of people who work (or worked) in a top firm in the very high pressure financial industry. They all have secrets and reasons to dislike each other, and as the group is stuck in a hot elevator together, the pressure mounts. This book really held my attention, and I highly recommend it.

Honey, Baby, Mine
by Laura Dern and Diane Ladd

So many reasons to love this book: the words expressed by mother and daughter, the photos, the reasons to walk and record all the memories that had never been explained or explored. Of course any mother, daughter or grandmother will relate to these candid conversations, but any person would too. And of course you will read and think of all the questions or answers either yet to be asked and said to the people you loved, or sadly, if they have passed, no words at all. This read went all too fast. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

On Fire Island
by Jane L. Rosen

I have mixed feelings about this book. The narrator is Julia who has just died way too young. Yes, the narrator is deceased and she is intent on watching over her grieving husband Ben until she knows he'll be okay. Ben escapes to their Fire Island home hoping to avoid people but as you know things don't always turn out as expected. The book is written with humor as you find out their story and the stories of those around them.

Planes, Trains, And All The Feels

This book was devoured in just a few days! I loved every second of it and wish I could reread it again for the first time. I loved both characters and how each found their voice by the end of the novel. It was the perfect book for a person who is starting to forge their own lives after starting their career.
