The Girl Next Door
by Barbara Delinsky

View in Library Catalog

Three families living together, causing troubles and foibles. The young pretty widow is pregnant and the wives are suspicious that their husbands are the father of this unborn child. The lead character is a lovely Irish girl trying to conceive a child. The family puts much pressure on her. All the characters are foiled in some way. This story held my interest throughout the entire book. Very interesting. Character study.

The Guest

The book is very well written. You want to hate the main character, Alex for being a grifter and drifter through the upscale society of the Hamptons. Alex knows how to manipulate and get through her days, yet she knows they are numbered due to her decisions. I did like this book.

Israel 201: Your Next Level Guide To The Magic And Mystery And Chaos Of Life In The Holy Land
by Joel Chasnoff and Benji Lovitt

I would not ordinarily read this type of book but it was for a book club. Written by 2 comedians, I thought it would have more humor. Parts were funny, but it mostly read like a textbook. Lots of information about Israel.

The Escape Room

Vincent, Sam, Jules and Sylvie are high flying investment bankers. Powerful, attractive and wealthy. In their world of finance they are untouchable and don't care who they destroy because no one can touch them. Until they answer an email to show up for an "Escape Room" experience. It is meant to be a team building exercise but is it really?

Anxious People

This was up and down for me. Excellent plotting, meaningful observations, poignant moments, and a reflection of the author’s deep understanding of the human condition. Didn’t really love the style. Also felt as if the author was teaching a class in what he has learned about life. I appreciated the intricate unraveling of the story, and the amazing development of 6 degrees of separation among the characters. Ending was very uplifting, Perhaps, a bit to neatly tied up.

The Rule Of Four

While this book was a bit over my head in some of the details, it was written so wonderfully that I had trouble putting it down. It’s like historical fiction set at a modern-day college. The team of friends involved are wonderfully and carefully crafted. You just need a bit of patience to follow along with the clues as they are teased out. And the beauty of the writing, with the comparison between Tom, the central character’s life, and that of his father, really comes through at the end.

We Were The Lucky Ones By Georgia Hunter

This story took place during WW11 in Poland. It’s about a family torn apart for safety from the nazi invasion. They spread out through Europe. This was inspired by the author’s family story. The human spirit finds a way to keep alive. The title shows, when things look the bleakest, survival overcomes the worst.

What She Left Behind

This Historical Fiction book, follows A teenage foster child (Izzie) who finds a journal in a closed NY mental hospital, Willard. The journal belongs to Clara, a young woman growing up in the early 1900’s. The chapters alternate as you discover each character’s journey. I could not put the book down because I needed to know what happened to each young woman. Recommend for those who have an interest in the role of women across time.

If We're Being Honest

An easy breezy summer read about a big family in a small town. It starts with a funeral and ends with a wedding all within a week. The characters are funny and relatable, but the plot is VERY predictable.
