A close and intimate look at the inner workings of a cross-involved Irish family. We also see how the events of a single night affect the entire family and change the trajectory of individual members’ future. It is fascinating to see how mistakes made can change the lives of, not only the people directly involved, but the entire family.

Leave The World Behind

I thought this book was fairly good at the beginning. It was about a couple from Brooklyn, NY who decide to rent a home in the Hamptons. along with their 2 teenagers. When they are there for one day, there is a knock on the door and a couple are there stating this is their home, and there is a major blackout in NYC where they live. There is no TV or internet and they feel safer on Long Island. Amanda and Clay don't know if they should believe them. However they do let them in. Strange things start happening. There is a loud noise and some of the glass windows have cracks. Then Archie, their son gets sick and his teeth fall out. I think it was too weird for me and I should have left it behind.

The Audrey Hepburn Estate

I really enjoyed this book. It is a mix of romance, mystery, and historical fiction. It takes place after WWII in an apartment above an Estate similar to the housing in Sabrina. I enjoyed all the references to Audrey Hepburn and her life which I also learned in the authors note.

I had always heard that this was a classic so I wanted to read it. I knew the ending going in but I was still interested. I think it was well written, but a tad slow and monotonous, which may have been the point, but I'm not sure. It's a good quick read.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. Is there anyway to give it 10 stars? I found it on a new book list in a magazine and knew nothing of the LA story of two sisters and their sad, addictions and difficult lives. The writing is so smart, so vivid, so terse I couldn't find a reason to hate anything about this story. They are Russian Jews in the diaspora and they carry the weight of all the ancestors who have come before. But should they? Do they? How they treat and triumph...sort of.

Saddest plot twist right at the end but overall brilliant if you are committed to the book!

The Child I Never Had
by Kate Hewitt

A very powerful, emotion-packed story of two families and decisions made by both. A child is adopted and the birth and adoptive mothers agree to an open adoption where the birth mother will be in contact with the child. This creates stresses that lead to decisions that are not always in everyone’s best interest. These decisions then lead to a moving finale, hopefully, resolving, at least, some of the familial conflicts.
