View in Library Catalog

Once again, we meet Pendergast, a famous, or perhaps, infamous F.B.I. agent. There is a series of bizarre murders in Miami Beach. Woman are being murdered, their hearts removed, and later deposited on, apparently random, graves. Pendergast has a new supervisor, and in order to remain on the case, Pendergast has to agree to the unthinkable-a partner. He and his partner eventually find a connection. The graves all belong to women who committed suicide. The investigation uncovers a decades old conspiracy; a conspiracy of death. You will have trouble putting this book down.

Sisters of Shiloh

It's 1862. Time of the Civil War. Joseph and Thomas are fresh recruits to the Confederate Army. Before joining these two were Josephine and Libby. It was Libby's idea to go find her beloved husband Arden. It was Josephine's idea to follow her sister to protect her. These two young women, ages about mid-teens, see horrors that no one should see and endure horrific conditions. The authors, also sisters, wove this tale of truth and fiction in a most intriguing and realistic manner. Worth the read.

What an adventure! I adored everything about this trilogy. The author somehow perfectly captured the love/hate relationship between Veronyka and Val—two sisters on opposing sides of the war. It ended beautifully, and it was totally worth the many hours it took to listen to the audiobooks.

On Fire Island
by Jane L. Rosen

I have mixed feelings about this book. The narrator is Julia who has just died way too young. Yes, the narrator is deceased and she is intent on watching over her grieving husband Ben until she knows he'll be okay. Ben escapes to their Fire Island home hoping to avoid people but as you know things don't always turn out as expected. The book is written with humor as you find out their story and the stories of those around them.

Very enjoyable story told by Marcy Hammer, whose husband Harvey has left her suddenly without word. We journey with Marcy through her devastation and eventual healing as she regains her self-respect. Lots of humor and great supporting characters! Anne Einbond-Paley

Leave The World Behind

I thought this book was fairly good at the beginning. It was about a couple from Brooklyn, NY who decide to rent a home in the Hamptons. along with their 2 teenagers. When they are there for one day, there is a knock on the door and a couple are there stating this is their home, and there is a major blackout in NYC where they live. There is no TV or internet and they feel safer on Long Island. Amanda and Clay don't know if they should believe them. However they do let them in. Strange things start happening. There is a loud noise and some of the glass windows have cracks. Then Archie, their son gets sick and his teeth fall out. I think it was too weird for me and I should have left it behind.

How To Love Your Daughter
by Hila Blum

I am sure that there is much to this book that I have missed in symbolism, but I liked it so much it didn't matter. The perspectives of mothers: especially as the narrator explains about her daughter and mom was telling and relatable. I rooted for her and her daughter. A really different book than I'm used to or expected.

The Child I Never Had
by Kate Hewitt

A very powerful, emotion-packed story of two families and decisions made by both. A child is adopted and the birth and adoptive mothers agree to an open adoption where the birth mother will be in contact with the child. This creates stresses that lead to decisions that are not always in everyone’s best interest. These decisions then lead to a moving finale, hopefully, resolving, at least, some of the familial conflicts.

Sophia, Princess Among Beasts
by James Patterson and Emily Raymond

This is  fantasy book that just did not engage me.  Over all the story isn't bad but I could not read more than a chapter or 2 at a time (and if you know James Patterson, his chapters are short).
