I really enjoyed the second book in this duology. It is focused on Citali, who redeems herself and becomes powerful enough to fight the gods. I love a good redemption story.

The First Ladies
by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray

This is an amazing chronicle of an interesting and unusual friendship between First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and educator and amazing civil rights activist, Mary McLeod-Bethune. Their friendship and collaboration in the fight for racial equality led to some advances for Negroes but certainly reminds one how far we have yet to go. Current trends concerning human rights are somewhat discouraging, but there is always hope that kindness and humanity will win.

Ms. Marshall writes a well researched deftly created narrative which takes place in Toronto circa 1960's.. It inter braids the stories of three women whose lives have been deeply affected by the struggle over women's reproductive rights in Canada which finally ended in 1988 with the groundbreaking decision to legalize abortion.
